Hoerikwaggo Trail

POINTS OF INTEREST

Hoerikwaggo Trail

A great way to get acquainted with Table Mountain and all its moods is to hike part of the Hoerikwaggo Trail, which opened in 2006. The trail follows the spine of the mountains that run the length of the peninsula, linking four tented camps from the Table Mountain lower cable station all the way to the Cape Point lighthouse. The camps are located at Orangekloof, Silvermine, Slangkop, and Smitswinkel Bay. Hikes are guided and portered, but you'll have to bring your own food, which will be portered. Built on wooden platforms, the tented camps have beds, hot showers, kitchens, and braais (barbecues). You can opt for a single night at any of the tented camps; the adventurous can take on the whole trail (four nights). Alternately, there's the three-day "table mountain" trail aimed at international tourists, which starts at the Waterfront and ends at Kirstenbosch. It's guided, and fully-catered accommodation (in cottages) are to-notch.
